Senior Policy Advisor, U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of Energy and Environmental Industries (OEEI)
Cheryl McQueen is Senior Policy Advisor in the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of Energy and Environmental Industries (OEEI). In this capacity, she designs programs and activities that enhance the global competitiveness of U.S. energy and environmental
firms and promote U.S. exports. Under her leadership, OEEI has launched several energy initiatives, including a government-wide promotion of civil nuclear trade.
Prior to this assignment, Ms. McQueen was Deputy Director, then Director of the Commerce Department’s Office of the Chinese Economic Area. She served as policy advisor to five Secretaries of Commerce for commercial matters involving China, Mongolia and the Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions. While working on China issues, she designed a series of capacity building programs in the areas of health care, standards and rule of law and also served as acting director of a new office at the U.S. embassy in Beijing designed to facilitate US-China trade.
Ms. McQueen has served as adjunct professor and scholar in residence at Hampton University and Bennett College for Women in support of the White House Initiative for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. She is a member of the Asia Society, Trade Policy Forum, Women’s Committee of the Washington Performing Arts Society and advisory boards for Princeton University’s Scholars in the Nation’s Service Initiative and Bennett College’s Global Studies Initiative.
Ms. McQueen received her M.P.A. from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School for International Affairs and B.A. in Economics from Harvard College.
